Emma's School Project
Emma had her first big school project due last week. They had read Charlotte's Web in class so their assignment was to make a diorama of the farm. Emma was so excited about it and I have to say, I was kind of excited too! We used popsicle sticks painted red to cover the outside of the shoebox to make it look like a barn (which Emma painted all by herself) and then used scrapbook paper for the inside to look like wood and hay. Then we used some stickers and glitter glue to make the "Some Pig" web. Emma was happy with how it turned out. I can't wait to help her with more fun projects!

Ron and Sarah's Wedding!!
Yesterday Jon's brother, Ron, married an amazing girl, Sarah! We are so happy for them! The ceremony was really nice. It was at a small place in Gilbert called Cozy Weddings. The reception was at Joe's Farm Grill. It was a pretty setting and Sarah and her friends did a great job with the decorations. My day started early doing hair for the bride and her sister. I love doing updos, especially for weddings! Sarah made me a beautiful necklace to say thank you! I love it! Jon was the best man and worked hard on his speech. He did a great job, but I never doubted he would. He's a great public speaker. Emma and Derrick behaved very well through the long day. Thank goodness for ipods, grandma's phone and a new bucket truck from grandpa! It helped keep them occupied! :) There were cards at the reception for people to write advice to the bride and groom. Emma really wanted to write something, so she wrote, "I'm glad Sarah is my aunt! Love, Emma" We are all glad Sarah is our aunt and sister in law. We love you both. Welcome to the family Sarah!

Fall Break
Fall Break comes to a close and I will be happy on Monday! We had a good week, but the kids are definitely ready to go back to school and I am ready for them to go back as well! :) On Monday we went to Freestone Park and rode the train and the other small rides they have there. I found a buy one get one free wristband coupon online so it was a good price for the kids to ride as much as they wanted. I was worried it would be crowded, but there were only a few families there and the kids never had to wait long to ride what they wanted to. The Ferris wheel was their favorite. I think they rode it 3 times! We packed a lunch and had a fun morning!

After the park we went to a Halloween store to look for costumes and they had this there.
Tuesday we went to the library. It was the first time I had taken them there ( I know I'm a bad mom). They checked out a lot of movies and books. I think they really liked it and are anxious to go back. I love that you can check out movies! But a lot of them are so scratched we couldn't even watch them. But the books kept Emma on top of her reading over the break.
Wednesday I got sick. Just a little cold but it was a miserable couple days. I'm glad it's gone! I'm glad we had a fun Fall Break but, hooray for Monday!! :)

Dolly Steamboat
A few months ago I bought tickets for our family to go on the Dolly Steamboat on Canyon Lake. I bought them on Groupon (which if you haven't yet, check it out!). I booked it for the last possible Saturday I could before it expired hoping it wouldn't be too hot. Well, even on October 2nd we were pushing 100 degree weather. But the kids still had a lot of fun despite the heat. The boat ride was about 1 1/2 hours and the captain pointed out interesting things along the way. We saw caves, rock formations (including Jon's favorite J.S. Bach) and eagles. The kids went to the front of the boat and talked with the captain and saw the big paddle in the back of the boat. It was a fun outing!

Constitution Festival
September 17th Gilbert celebrated Constitution Day with a festival and fireworks. Emma heard about it at school and insisted that we go. It was fun for the kids. Emma enjoyed collecting trading cards from people like Betsy Ross and Martha Washington. She has learned about them in school and thought it was really cool that she could get cards from them! :) There was also a replica of The Washington Monument which the kids were really into since dad would be going to the real one the following week. And they love the movie Night at the Museum 2! Emma and Derrick also had the chance to jump in a bounce house and sit in a drag racing car. The fireworks were a pretty good show and we were glad we took the kids and that my parents went with us.

Jon's trip to D.C.
The last week of September Jon and his dad went to Washington D.C. Jon had to go for work so we decided it would be fun for him to go a few days early and take his dad so they could have a nice trip together. They had a lot of fun and saw all the sites to see. It was a long week for me at home, but I am glad they were able to do this together. I love them both and I know it meant a lot to them!
