Halloween

Emma was not allowed to wear her costume to school and I probably wouldn't have let her anyway! So we came up with something cute for her to wear so she would feel festive. I went in and helped in Derrick's classroom for their party so I got Grace dressed in her little skeleton shirt. Derrick insisted on wearing his costume to school even though it was something like 90 degrees that day and his costume was a sweatshirt! (He said he got hot.  He also got grass stains on it!) Jon was back from hunting on Halloween this year and his office had a trick or treat for the kids. So I go them dressed quickly after school and we drove to the office. Then we went to dinner at Tia Rosa's, then home for a quick refresher and out trick or treating. The kids always get so much candy that a lot of it gets thrown out. But they still enjoy all the festivities of Halloween!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or treat...better known as the practice round for costumes! :) Jon was hunting this year so his parents met me at the church to see the kids and help out.  And it was a good thing because Grace was fussy by the end of the night!  Grandpa took the kids around to get candy while Grandma and I passed out candy at the car and listened to Grace fuss! This year Grace was a ghost, Derrick was a mummy and Emma was the White Witch from Narnia. It was a lot of work to make 3 costumes and get all 3 kids ready on my own, but we made it. Thank goodness for the practice though because Emma's hair was better on Halloween! Even still I thought they all looked pretty good!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Denver

On October 19th and 20th Jon and I were able to take a quick get away with just the 2 of us to Denver.  Why Denver?  Well, the flights were ridiculously cheap and I just wanted to go somewhere!  Grandma Trafzer and Grandma Clark were kind enough to watch the kiddos for us including Grace (who I missed terribly!).  We had a great time though.  We took an early morning flight on Friday.  It was thrilling flying over the Rocky Mountains!  When we got there we drove to our hotel and then went to lunch.  On the drive from the airport to the hotel I was amazed at the trees!  The leaves were changing and it was incredibly beautiful.  I've never seen anything like it!  After lunch we just started driving.  We had no idea where we were going or what we were doing.  We stumbled upon the Denver temple.  So we got out there and walked around.  It was a nice day and nice to just be on the temple grounds for a bit.  Then we kept driving toward the mountains and came across a place called The Red Rocks.  It's an amphitheater built right into rocks overlooking the city.  It would be amazing to see and hear a concert there.  It was a very beautiful place.  As we were driving up to The Red Rocks, Jon couldn't believe how many deer there were just right off the side of the road.  We have a lot of deer pictures from this trip.  :)  We also decided we would love to live along the river in a big beautiful house! :)  Friday night we had dinner at a delicious steak house.  On Saturday we had breakfast at a great place called Snooze.  I thoroughly enjoyed a peanut butter cup pancake and the best hot chocolate I've ever had.  Just thinking about it I am craving it again! Jon had pumpkin and marscapone stuffed french toast with chile maple syrup and candied papitas. (How's that for a fancy breakfast!) After breakfast we went to downtown and walked around.  We saw the Capitol building and walked around the outdoor mall.  Then we took a tour of the Hammond Candy Factory.  They still make all their candy by hand.  It was a pretty cool tour.  We got to watch them make candy canes.  The cinnamon candy cane was really good!  It was a short trip but a fun one and I'm glad we could go!
